【指南針東西南北英文東西南北英文】1. 其前通常加 the；表示在某個方位 ， 通常介詞 in 。如：
He lives in the south (north). 他住在南(北)方 。
The sun rises in the east and sets in the west. 太陽從東方升起 ， 從西方落下 。
【注】有時也不用冠詞(尤其是表示純方位或進行反義對比時) 。如：

Mexico is to the south of the U. S. A. 墨西哥在美國以南 。
China faces the Pacific on the east. 中國東臨太平洋
3. 用作副詞 ， 其前不用介詞 ， 但有時其后可接介詞短語 。如：
The room faces east, so we get the morning sun. 這房間朝東 ， 所以我們上午能照到太陽 。
The village lies east of the woods. 村莊位于樹林東面 。
比較：The village lies to the east of the woods.
有的詞書把 east of 之類的結構當作固定短語看待 ， 將其用作表語、狀語或后置定語等 。如：
Is the Atlantic Ocean east or west of the United States?大西洋是在美國的東面還是西面?
The Smiths live (five miles) southeast of the town. 史密斯一家住在城鎮東面(五英里的地方) 。
4. 漢語中說“東南西北”或“東西南北” ， 但在英語中卻要說成north, south, east and west(北南東西) 或 north, east, south andwest(北東南西) ， 也有人說 north, east, west and south(北東西南) ， 該說法中各詞的之一個字母合起來是 news(消息) 。
【注】以下各表達中 ， 其方位習慣與漢語完全相反：northeast(東北) ， southeast(東南) ， northwest(西北) ， southwest(西南)
